Most parts of Eastern Africa are likely to receive rainfall in the next seven days, with north-eastern and central parts of Kenya, parts of western and southern Ethiopia, southern Somalia and isolated areas in southern Tanzania expected to flood.
According to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development(IGAD)’s Climate Prediction and Application Centre(ICPAC) weekly forecast, very heavy rainfall is likely to be experienced in cross border areas of Kenya (Mandera), Somalia (Gedo), Ethiopia (Dollo Ado).
Moderate rainfall is expected in Western and southern Ethiopia, southern Somalia, western and central parts of South Sudan, western and central to north-eastern Kenya, isolated areas in western Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda and southern Tanzania whereas central to northern Somalia, most parts of Ethiopia, northern and southern South Sudan, Djibouti, central to western Uganda, and parts of eastern, and central Tanzania are likely to receive light rainfall.
However, in Sudan, north-eastern Ethiopia, most parts of Eritrea, northern Somalia, parts of Djibouti and the Karamoja cluster, dry conditions are likely to remain, with warmer than usual temperatures forecasted over most parts of Sudan, central to northern parts of Somalia, most parts of Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania.
Moreover, cooler than usual conditions are expected over northern Sudan, central and eastern parts of South Sudan, and north-eastern Kenya while drier than usual conditions expected over southern South Sudan, western Kenya, much of Uganda, eastern Rwanda and parts of north-eastern Tanzania.
