High temperatures which could potentially lead to heat-related fatigue are expected in parts of Sudan, Eritrea and Afar region in Ethiopia.
According to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)’s Climate Prediction and Application Centre(ICPAC), the public is advised to keep hydrated and avoid long periods of direct exposure to the sun.
ICPAC predicts that hot temperatures above 32 ℃ are expected in central to northern Sudan, Afar region in Ethiopia, Djibouti, coastal regions of Eritrea, and north-western coastal parts of Somalia while other areas are expected to receive moderate to mild temperatures.
Meanwhile, very heavy rainfall likely to cause flood in prone areas is also expected in north-western to northern Ethiopia, western Eritrea, much of southern Sudan, and central parts of South Sudan.
Southern Sudan, much of South Sudan, western Eritrea, western and northern Ethiopia, northern Uganda, and isolated areas in western Kenya are likely to experience moderate rainfall.
Light rainfall is predicted over central to northern Sudan, eastern South Sudan, parts of central to eastern Ethiopia, parts of coastal Eritrea, southern Somalia, Djibouti, eastern and southern Tanzania, coastal and western Kenya, and central to southwestern Uganda.
However, dry conditions are expected over central to northern Somalia, southern and eastern Ethiopia, much of Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, and most parts of Tanzania.
Drier than usual conditions are expected over isolated areas in southern Sudan, eastern South Sudan, central Ethiopia, and eastern Uganda extending to parts of western Kenya.
