The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) is set to host its first scientific conference and exhibition from 27th to 31st march 2023 at the organization’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.
The conference theme is transformative agricultural technologies, innovations and management practices for food and nutrition security, income and climate resilience.
Organized in collaboration with other stakeholders in the agricultural sector, the conference provides an opportunity for sharing of recent transformative technologies, innovations and management practices.
The inaugural meeting has four main objectives including providing a forum for sharing transformative agricultural research products and services, sharing innovative approaches and strategies for technology transfer and uptake, enhancing partnerships and strengthening linkages among stakeholders as well as exhibiting technologies, products and services of KALRO, partners and stakeholders.
The Area of focus for the KALRO conference are climate smart agriculture for sustainable food and nutrition security and agribusiness, ICTs and innovation platforms for improved agricultural service delivery; innovative technologies in food, horticultural and industrial crops; innovative technologies in livestock genetic improvement, disease control, feeds and feeding, emerging livestock species; innovations and technologies in blue and green economies; pre-and-postharvest and value addition technologies for improved local and global competitiveness; sustainable technologies, innovations and management practices in agroforestry, bioenergy, land and water management; mechanization for enhanced competitiveness of agricultural and livestock value chains; innovations to increase opportunities for women and youth integration in agriculture; county government opportunities and challenges in agricultural technology transfer and out-scaling and private sector opportunities and challenges in agricultural technology development transfer and out-scaling among others.
In this regard, those planning to present papers should submit full papers by 13th February 2023. The papers will be subjected to pre-screening and peer review. The final versions of accepted papers should be submitted by 28th February 2023.
The submitted papers should have a title and name(s), institutional affiliation(s) and complete mailing address(es) including e-mail of the author(s) with an indication of which author is responsible for correspondence, and abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusion, recommendations, acknowledgment and references.
Also, the papers will be presented in person at KALRO headquarters or virtually and those presenting virtual papers will be required to share a pre-recorded presentation as a backup.
Papers presented at the conference will be published in a volume tentatively titled “Proceedings of the 1st KALRO Scientific Conference” and select papers published in a special issue of The East African Agriculture and Forestry Journal (EAAFJ).
