Dr. Yeri Kombe has become the Director and Chief Executive Officer, of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) for a two years term with effect from 1st March 2018.
The Board of Management Chairman, Dr. Naphtali Agata said “On my own behalf and on behalf of the KEMRI Board of Management, I take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Kombe on his appointment. Please accord him all the necessary support and cooperation in the discharge of his duties as Director/CEO, KEMRI.’’
Until his appointment, Dr. Kombe has been the Acting Director, KEMRI for the last one year. He was a former Director of the Center for Public Health Research (CPHR) where he served for over six years and the immediate National Coordinator of the Food Handlers Programme.
Dr. Kombe is also an accomplished researcher who has participated in a number of studies that have contributed immensely to public health policies in the country. He is also a trainer and mentor of many young scientists not only in Kenya, but also throughout the region. He holds a Medical degree (MBChB) from University of Nairobi, a Masters degree in Public Health from University of Nairobi and PhD degree in Epidemiology.
While taking over his new responsibilities, Dr. Kombe thanked the Board of Management for having confidence in him and promised to take the institute to the next level “I want to take this opportunity to most sincerely thank the Board for appointing me as Director and CEO of this prestigious premier Institution in Africa” he said.
He said “As you all know our Strategic Plan is anchored on research and development, innovation, service delivery and capacity building. And therefore these pillars provides important framework for effectively contribution in attainment of the Universal Health Coverage.
Dr. Yeri Kombe was appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) on April, 1st 2017 by the former Cabinet Secretary of Health, Dr. Cleopa Mailu.
