The Kenyan government in partnership with the University of Nairobi and the Global Centre on Adaptation (GCA) will host a Leaders’ Dialogue on Adaptation Action in Africa on 7th July, 2022.

Among the agenda’s of the dialogue will be to mark the inauguration of Kenya’s President, Uhuru Kenyatta as the Global Champion for the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP).

The AAAP is the Africa-led, Africa-owned initiative jointly developed by the GCA and the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) that is mobilizing USD 25 billion for climate adaptation investments in Africa over five years.

The event will also feature a signing ceremony of a Partnership Agreement between GCA and the University of Nairobi to scale up finance for resilient infrastructure and promote opportunities for adaptation jobs.

Apart from President Kenyatta, key speakers during the event will include: Ban Ki-Moon, Chair of the GCA and the 8th Secretary General of the United Nations, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of World Trade Organization, Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for Egypt, Keriako Tobiko, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Prof Stephen Kiama, Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, Dr Patrick Verkooijen, Chief Executive Officer of the GCA.

This will be the second time such a dialogue is held in the country following the previous one held in 2021.
