Most places in the southern part of Kenya are expected to receive rainfall, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD)’s 12th to 18th December Weekly Prediction.
Northeastern and North-western Kenya are likely to be dry though a few areas may experience light to moderate rainfall, especially the North-western region.
Also, isolated storms and heavy rainfall are likely to occur over a few areas of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin.
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, morning rains are expected over few places. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over few places occasionally spreading to several places with night showers expected over few places.
In Turkana and Samburu Counties, days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, a few areas are expected to receive morning rains, afternoon and night showers on Thursday and Friday.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County, occasional morning rains are expected over few places while afternoon showers are likely to occur over few places and occasionally spread to several places. Night showers are also expected over few places.
Moreover, in Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, occasional morning rains and afternoon/night showers may occur over a few places.
Occasional morning rains are expected over a few places. Afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over a few places in the South-eastern lowlands.
Morning and afternoon showers are expected over few places, and nights are expected to be partly cloudy though a few areas in Tana River County may experience occasional showers at the Coast.
Comparing the 27 November – 3 December 2023 and 4 – 10 December 2023 periods, it is noted that day-time (maximum) temperatures increased over most parts of the country except over Kakamega, Voi, the Coastal region and the Lake Victoria Basin where temperatures decreased. Night-time (minimum) temperatures increased over some stations including Kitale, Suba, Lodwar and Lamu and decreased over others such as Mandera, Narok, Meru and Machakos.
