East Africans have been urged to take more caution following the expected heavy rainfall across the region.

The Weather forecast for 23-30 April 2024 by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC), shows that very heavy rainfall with a possibility of flooding is expected in several parts of East Africa.

Central to southern Ethiopia and northern and western Kenya are anticipated to receive exceptionally heavy rainfall during the forecast period. Southern Somalia, southern and eastern Ethiopia, western Kenya, northern and southern Uganda, and parts of Rwanda will also receive heavy rainfall.

Moderate rainfall is expected over most parts of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, western and northern Kenya, central to southern Ethiopia, southern and north-western Somalia, and southern South Sudan.

While parts of Ethiopia, southern Somalia, northern and western Kenya, Rwanda and northern and central to southern Uganda are expected to be wetter than usual, Sudan and parts of north-western Ethiopia and Eritrea, parts of eastern Kenya and central to south-western Tanzania are expected to be dry.

Episodes of elevated levels of heat stress is expected in most parts of South Sudan, Sudan, eastern and northern Kenya, central to southern Somalia, and coastal regions of Eritrea, Somalia and Tanzania.

Moderate to high temperatures are expected across most parts of the region. High temperatures above 32℃ are expected across border regions of Sudan, South Sudan and Moderate below 20℃ over parts of northern to central Ethiopia, central to western Kenya, most parts of Rwanda and Burundi and parts of southern Tanzania.
