Rainfall is expected to continue over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley and the Coast with the South-eastern lowlands, North-western and North-eastern Kenya are likely to be generally dry.
This is according to the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) weekly forecast for 8th-14th August 2023.
Further, occasional cold and cloudy conditions are expected over the Highlands East of the Rift valley as well as over some parts of the South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
KMD says mornings are expected to be mainly sunny though light rains may occur over few places. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places during the first half of the forecast period reducing to few places thereafter with night showers expected over few places in The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County), mornings are likely to be cloudy, with light rains over few places, giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon and night showers are expected over few places.
Days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy in the Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya.
Occasional cloudiness is expected in the mornings giving way to sunny intervals. Nights are likely to be partly cloudy in Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta Counties.
At the Coast, occasional morning and early afternoon showers are expected over few places.
Comparing the 24 to 30 July 2023 and the 31 July to 6 August 2023 periods, it is noted that day-time (maximum) temperatures decreased over much of the country though a number of stations in the Coast and North-eastern Kenya recorded increases. Night-time (minimum) temperatures increased over some stations including Narok, Nyahururu and Kitui and decreased over others like Suba, Mtwapa and Lodwar.
