Most parts of Kenya will receive rainfall in the first half of the week but the rest of the week are likely to remain dry, a seven-day rainfall forecast by Kenya Meteorological Department(KMD) predicts.
In the next three days, rainfall is expected over some parts of Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the Coast.
The organization also cautions Coastal, Southeastern lowlands and North-eastern Kenya residents of the strong southerly winds with speeds exceeding 25knots (12.9m/s) that are likely to occur over these regions. Both daytime (maximum) temperatures and night time (minimum) temperatures are likely to be moderate during this forecast period.
During these period, mornings are expected to be sunny with light rains likely to occur over few places. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms as well as night showers are also expected over few places during the first half of the forecast period. Both maximum (day-time) temperatures and minimum (night-time) temperatures are likely to moderate.
Conversely, Turkana and Samburu counties are expected to remain dry with sunny days and partly cloudy at night. However, occasional morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over few places during the first half of the forecast period.
Maximum (day-time) temperatures are likely to range from 23 to 36 degrees Celsius while minimum (night-time) temperatures are expected to be between 11and 25 degrees Celsius.
The Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi county are likely to be cloudy with occasional rains in the morning, giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon showers are expected over few places during the first half of the forecast period.
Nights are likely to be partly cloudy with occasional showers over few places. Maximum (day-time) temperatures are likely to range from 20 to 27 while minimum (night-time) temperatures are expected to be between 3and 16 degrees Celsius.
Moreover, North-eastern Kenya is likely to remain generally sunny in the morning and partly cloudy at night with maximum (day-time) temperatures are likely to range from 24 to 37 degrees Celsius while minimum (night-time) temperatures are expected to be between 14 and 26 degrees Celsius.
KMD further notes that South-eastern lowlands is likely to remain generally sunny during the day and nights partly cloudy. Maximum (day-time) temperatures are likely to range from 19 to 31 degrees Celsius while minimum (night-time) temperatures are expected to be between 9 and 21 degrees Celsius.
There are high changes of experiencing morning, early afternoon and night showers in the Coastal region with maximum temperatures are likely to range from 27 to 31 degrees Celsius while minimum (night-time) temperatures are expected to be between 21 and 26 degrees Celsius.
In the last seven days, rainfall was recorded over most parts of the Coast as well as over a few areas in the South-eastern lowlands, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin.
A Comparison between previous review period (23-29 May 2022) to the current review period (30 May-5 June 2022), indicate that there was an increase in rainfall amounts over the Coast and the South-eastern lowlands and a decrease over the rest of the country.
Also, day-time (maximum) temperatures decreased over most parts of the country with only a few stations including Kitale, Kakamega and Kericho recording slight increases and night-time (minimum) temperatures decreased throughout the country.
