Rainfall is expected to continue over several parts of the country including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and the Coast as the rest of the country is likely to be generally dry.

This is according to the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) weekly prediction from 26th-2nd October.

KMD says morning rains are expected over few places with afternoon showers and thunderstorms likely to occur over few places occasionally spreading to several places. Night showers are expected over few places in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.

Also, Turkana and Samburu Counties are likely to have sunny days and partly cloudy nights. However, morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over few places during the first half of the forecast period.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County), mornings are expected to be cloudy with occasional light rains giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over few places.

Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties are likely to be sunny during the day and partly cloudy during the night.

Days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, occasional afternoon showers may occur over few places during the second half of the forecast period in the South-eastern lowlands.

Moreover, at the Coast, occasional morning, early afternoon and night showers are expected over few places. The morning and early afternoon showers may spread to several places during the second half of the forecast period.

Comparing the 11 to 17 September 2023 and the 18 to 24 September 2023 periods, it is noted that day-time (maximum) temperatures increased over much of the country with only a few stations like Kisii, Narok and Laikipia recording slight decreases. Night-time (minimum) temperatures also increased over most stations with the exception of a few like Kericho, Eldoret and Nyahururu.
