Occasional cold and cloudy conditions are expected over Highlands East of the Rift Valley, South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley and Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Kenya Meteorological Department(KMD) predicts.
Further, the average night-time minimum temperatures will be less than 10°C across much of these regions, with rainfall expected over some parts.
In Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot counties, morning rains and afternoon thunderstorms are expected over few places.
The maximum (day-time) temperatures will be as high as 30°C in Kisumu. Minimum (night-time) temperatures will be as low as 9°C in Narok.
Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi counties will experience cloudy mornings and little rains, with occasional afternoon and night showers over few places.
Maximum (day-time) temperatures will rise to about 28°C in Laikipia. Nyahururu will have chilly nights with minimum (night-time) temperatures dropping to 6°C.
Sunny days and partly cloudy nights are expected in the counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo. However, occasional morning rains may occur over few places during the first half of the forecast period.
Garissa will experience high maximum (day-time) temperatures of up to 34°C. Minimum (night-time) temperatures will be as low as 15°C in Marsabit.
Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta counties are likely to be cloudy and partly sunny in the mornings. Maximum (day-time) temperatures will reach 31°C in Voi. Low minimum (night-time) temperatures of up to 9°C will be experienced in Machakos.
In the Coastal counties including Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale, days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, occasional morning, early afternoon and night showers are expected over a few places.
In Lamu, maximum (day-time) temperatures will rise to 31°C. Minimum (night-time) temperatures will be as low as 20°C in Mombasa.
Comparing the 19 to 25 June 2023 and the 26 June to 2 July 2023 periods, KMD notes that both day-time (maximum) temperatures and night-time (minimum) temperatures decreased over most parts of the country with only a few stations recording increases.
