Most parts of Kenya are likely to be dry, with some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley receiving few rainfall, the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) weekly prediction says.
Occasional cold and cloudy conditions are expected over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley as well as over some parts of the South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
KMD says that morning rains are expected over few places in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over few places occasionally spreading to several places in the regions while night showers are expected over few places.
Also, in North-western Kenya (Turkana and Samburu Counties), days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, there is a possibility of morning and afternoon rains and night showers occurring over few places.
Moreover, mornings are likely to be cloudy, with light rains over few places, giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon showers are expected over few places while nights are likely to be partly cloudy, in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County).
In Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties, sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.
Occasional cloudiness is expected in the mornings giving way to sunny intervals. Nights are likely to be partly cloudy in the South-eastern lowlands.
In addition, at the coast, sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy. However, occasional morning and early afternoon showers are expected over few places during the first half of the forecast period.
Comparing the 10th to 16th July 2023 and the 17th to 23rd July 2023 periods, it is noted that day-time (maximum) temperatures increased over some stations including Meru, Kisii and Laikipia and decreased over Mandera, Embu and Ngong among others.
During the same period, night-time (minimum) temperatures increased over most parts of the country though a few stations in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the South-eastern lowlands recorded slight decreases.
