While the rest of Kenya is expected to be dry, rainfall is expected in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and the Coast at the beginning of this forecast which runs from 12th -18th September.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD), morning rains are expected over a few places at the beginning of the forecast period, with afternoon showers and thunderstorms likely to occur over several places reducing to few places as the forecast period progresses.
Night showers are expected over a few places in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.
Turkana and Samburu counties are likely to have sunny days and partly cloudy nights. However, occasional afternoon showers may occur over a few places during the first half of the forecast period.
Early morning cloudiness is expected, giving way to sunny intervals with afternoon and night showers likely to occur over a few places at the beginning of the forecast period in The Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County).
Moreover, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties, days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy.
Also, KMD predicts that days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy with occasional afternoon showers over a few places during the first half of the forecast period in Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties.
Further, several parts of the country including the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya will experience high average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius.
Comparing the 28 August to 3 September 2023 and the 4 to 10 September 2023 periods, it is noted that day-time (maximum) temperatures decreased over some stations such as Kitale, Kakamega and Kisumu and increased over Nyahururu, Kabete and Mombasa. Night-time (minimum) temperatures increased over some stations including Msabaha, Makindu and Moyale and decreased over others including Suba, Garissa and Malindi.
