Rainfall is likely to continue over several parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Central and South Rift Valley as well as over a few areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and Northwestern Kenya while the rest of the country will be generally dry according to the Kenya Meteorological Department(KMD).
The organization say that average daytime temperatures are likely to be high approximately 30 degrees Celsius and above over some parts of North-eastern and North-western Kenya as average night-time (minimum) temperatures are likely to be moderate ranging between 10 – 20 degrees Celsius over most parts of the country.
Moreover, cold and cloudy conditions with occasional light rains are expected over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley as well as over some parts of the South-eastern lowlands, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Central and South Rift Valley.
According to KMD, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Central and South Rift Valley, morning rains are expected over few places with afternoon showers and thunderstorms expected over several places during the first half of the forecast period (2-8 August) reducing to few places thereafter and night showers are also likely to occur over few places.
Furthermore, North-western Kenya days are expected to be generally sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, there is a possibility of morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers occurring over few places while in North-eastern Kenya days are expected to be generally sunny and nights partly cloudy.
Additionally, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County mornings are likely to be cloudy with occasional light rains over few places, giving way to short sunny intervals and occasional afternoon and night showers expected over few places. Elsewhere in the South-eastern lowlands mornings are likely to be cloudy breaking into sunny intervals while nights are expected to be partly cloudy.
Elsewhere, in the Coast days are expected to be generally sunny though there is a possibility of light morning showers occurring over few places. Nights are likely to be partly cloudy. Minimum (night-time) temperatures are expected to be slightly higher than normal ranging between 20 – 24 degrees Celsius.
KMD recorded Rainfall in several parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Central and South Rift Valley as North-eastern Kenya and the Coast remained generally dry. Comparing the previous review period (18-24 July 2022) to the current review period (25-31 July 2022), it is noted that there was a significant decrease in rainfall amounts over the Coast.
Also, day-time (maximum) temperatures increased over most areas with only a few stations including Kitui, Meru and Kangema recording slight decreases. Night-time (minimum) temperatures increased over most parts of the country with only Mandera, Makindu and Wajir recording slight decreases.
