Some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, the Southern lowlands and North Eastern Kenya are likely to receive rainfall as North Western Kenya is expected to be generally dry.

This is according to the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) weekly prediction which runs from 3rd to 9th October.

In the highland west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, mornings are likely to be generally sunny with afternoon showers and thunderstorms likely to occur over few places. The nights are likely to be partly cloudy though showers may occur over few places during the second half of the forecast period.

Days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy in Turkana and Samburu counties.

KMD says in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County, occasional morning rains are expected over few places with afternoon and night showers also expected.

Also, morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over few places during the first half of the forecast period in Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties.

In the South-eastern lowlands, days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, occasional morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over few places during the first half of the forecast period.

Additionally, at the Coast, morning, early afternoon and night showers are expected over few places occasionally spreading to several places.

Comparing the 18 to 24 September 2023 and the 25 September to 1 October 2023 periods, it is noted that day-time (maximum) temperatures increased over much of the country with only a few stations like Nyahururu, Mtwapa and Voi recording decreases. Night-time (minimum) temperatures increased over some stations including Nakuru, Makindu and Kitale and reduced over Suba, Narok and Kitui among others.
